SOLEILS NOIRS/ DARK SUNS
Twenty years ago, muffled cries of young women resounded in northern Mexico, victims of a misogynistic fury. Two thousand kilometers further south, behind the volcanoes that surround the capital, hundreds of others have been murdered in recent years. The silence of the authorities and the climate of impunity open the door to all abuses. Fear interferes in the countryside as in the cities, on the mountain trails as on the highways. Migrants, looking for another life in the United States, are kidnapped and enslaved, young students are intercepted and disappear forever, peasant leaders are found dead in the forest while journalists are executed in the street. Exasperated, some persist and denounce relentlessly. Others, armed with shovels and defying ambushes, venture out in search of the bodies of missing relatives. By dint of testifying and searching, the truth is emerging little by little.
